Casting for Screen: Less is More
Led by Carolyn Pickles (Broadchurch, Harry Potter)
Please log in to your account to book your place
3 hours / £37.00

Date: December 10th
Location: Spotlight, 3rd Floor, 16 Garrick Street, London WC2E 9BA
Time: 18.00 - 21.00

In this masterclass actress Carolyn Pickles (Broadchurch,  Harry Potter) will work with you on accessing the presence and simplicity of truthful screen acting, using exercises designed to free oneself from nerves and the tendency to 'overwork'.

Starting with exercises designed to help the actor see, hear and respond honestly and as if for the first time, the class will be cast in duologues which after thorough and varying techniques (improvisation and hot seating to name two), will be filmed and played back for assessment and discussion. This advantage – to see oneself back at all stages of rehearsal and during filming, enables the actor to recognise their strengths, weaknesses and ‘tics’. The whole process prepares the actor for the self tape to the studio floor.

Carolyn will send out short scenes (having seen your Spotlight CV) 2 or 3 days before the workshop to be learnt.

Carolyn has worked extensively as an actress in Film, TV, Theatre and Radio.

Most recently she was at The Globe with Emilia, by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm which transferred to the Vaudeville Theatre in March 2019. She has worked as a voice over artist and done 3 seasons with the BBC Radio Repertory Company, doing over 50 radio plays.

Carolyn's numerous TV credits include The Canterville Ghost, Sister Boniface Investigates, MotherFatherSon,  Vera (ITV), Broadchurch (ITV), Land Girls (BBC), Midsomer Murders (ITV), Kingdom (ITV), Joe's Palace (BBC/HBO Stephen Poliakoff), Foyles War (ITV), Lewis (ITV), Bremner Bird And Fortune (C4), Emmerdale (ITV), Fathers and Sons (ABC/Fox), Poirot (Carnival), Holby City (BBC), Coronation Street (Granada), Preston Front (BBC) and Casualty (BBC) amongst many others.

Film work includes The Choral (Alan Bennett), Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (David Yates), Christmas at Mistletoe Farm for Netflix (Debbie Issit), The Spy Who Dumped Me (Susanna Fogel), The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus (Terry Gilliam), Ali G - In Da House (Mark Mylod), Tess Of The D'Ubervilles (Roman Polanski) and Agatha (Warner Brothers, Michael Apted).
