We are pleased to welcome back Casting Director Shakyra Dowling CSA who is currently casting a number of both British and European Feature Films including SCARBOROUGH, NAKED NORMANDY and NOCTURNAL.
Following an introduction from Shakyra participants will be paired up and have a chance to read through their scenes. Sides will be sent out shortly before the workshop along with character breakdowns, as she would for a real casting.
Shakyra would like participants to be as familar with text as possible.
Honest feedback will be given in a supportive environment before participants have the change to do a second take. This will be followed by a short tea break and an informal Q&A.
Shakyra is an independent Casting Director who has worked on Sundance, BAFTA, Berlinale and Oscar nominated films. Actors she has discovered have gone on to be nominated in best newcomer awards throughout the world.
She casts genre spanning British and International projects which include adventure/comedy Swedish film THE 100 YEAR OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED for Disney, to rock ’n’ roll live film experience GUTTERDAMMERUNG which features Iggy Pop, Grace Jones and Henry Rollins. Other notable International projects include Cuban/Canadian co-production UN TRADUCTOR (World Cinema Competition Sundance 2018, SPACESHIP (BBC FILMS/BFI, premiered at SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST 2016), British Comedy Feature AMAR, AKBAR AND TONY (Currently on NETFLIX) and RAVERS which opened at FrightFest 2018. Currently showing on TV4 is the first series in the Moscow Noir Trilogy for TV4 Sweden directed by Mikael Håfström.
Shakyra also casts commercials including Sony, Marks & Spencer, Google, Colgate, Belvita, DFS, Electrolux, Blinkbox, Dunlop, Nokia, Robinson’s Fruitshoots, Goodyear, Ladbrokes, Dunhill, Grand Marnier and Martini.
