The Actors’ Guild was founded by a community of professional actors who believed there was a better way to do things. They wanted an organisation that brought together key industry professionals, strict joining criteria and a low membership fee – a centre for professionals.
Founded in December 2010, members soon decided to register The Actors’ Guild of Great Britain as a not-for-profit organisation.
Such was the need, we grew very quickly and are now the largest membership organisation for on-going training in the UK. Our website, which is solely geared towards professional actors, gets an average of over 27,000 hits every day.
Although we form a large community of actors, we remain a small organisation in structure. This allows us to adapt quickly and offer an ever evolving collection of services that is genuinely actor led.
When it comes to on-going professional development we swing the pendulum of power firmly back to the actor and bring our disparate, nomadic profession together – and although we are not a union, we do recognise the voice we are as a collective.

Our greatest strength is the number of uniquely skilled professionals who make up our membership and with that comes an abundance of diversity and opportunity.
Rather like an actor is, we too are nomadic. We are not a building, our community uses a variety of spaces around the UK.
This means we are not limited by space and it gives us the freedom to offer the workshops and courses that you request. You could be learning to gallop in Warwickshire one day and on stage, working in the round, the next.
We run a hub at Spotlight throughout the week, offering a focus for our London operation in the heart of the West End – in a building at the very centre of the UK casting scene.
Supported by Equity, we are also developing our programme of workshops in Manchester.
